Hey now...
This is my outpost in the cyberworld, along with a gallery that shows me through time and favorite events and travels. I've had the great luck to have traipsed all over the world, meeting people, learning, and just plain old hanging out.
In the Beginning
I grew up around the world, with my father working for Flour, an international construction company that focused on oil equipment. I was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico. I've lived in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, as well as several states in the US. My parents settled in North Idaho when I was in middle school, and we stayed there through my graduation from Kootenai Jr./Sr. High School.
College Life
After Kootenai, I attended Central College in Iowa. I chose Central because
it had a non-traditional class structure and wonderful overseas programs.
Central was a conservative school, but I was lucky enough to attend
at the same time as a lot of like-minded people who were leaning a bit left of where things normally might be. I made rock-solid
friends with great people who I value as touchstones on reality and on possiblity.
I took advantage of the overseas programs, and went to Wales and London. I
had some of my most formative and informative experiences of my life in
London, and met and lived with artists who still inform my worldview. I put
off returning to the states, but did come back and complete my last
trimester. This is when I met the wonderful man who has become my life
companion – David Rowan.
After College
I was going back to Europe and asked David if he was interested in returning
with me. He was, and we had a wonderful time experiencing the everyday life
of working people in London. David had the wild opportunity to work at Harrods, and I worked for the BBC World Service. We then traipsed all over Europe before
returning to the US.
What happened after the bohemian life ended and we had to repay college
loans? We lived for a while in N. Idaho, my old home. We fell in love with
mountain biking, hiking and camping, and trips to the lake. We adopted our
dogs, Abbey and Curly. I began working in graphic design and prepress, and
Dave began worked in the food industry.
Work Life
In 1996, we moved to Colorado and I started at CU-Boulder, where I continued in the printing industry. David worked for several restaurants, and then took a position with an up-and-coming chain, Noodles and Company. He is now the manager of the Northern Colorado region, and has to deal with eight restaurant's worth of employees. As he became more established, I felt freer to take some risks in my professional life, and accepted a position in the Community Relations department at CU-Boulder. This job provides endless variety, from major event planning, to working with kids, to relations with non-profits. That final bit was one of the things that attracted me to the job.
