This essay is not meant to dissuade a CIO from client/server computing but rather to encourage them to 'look before they leap,' to give it thought and research the available options. Client/server technology is here to stay and it will change the way the business world computes However it has to be thought through, as a badly designed client/server computing environment will only realize the costs and not the benefits.
